What was your first credit card

Do you still have the card? Do you wish you had chosen or been approved for something different?

My first card was the Citi Diamond. Not knowing much about how cards worked, I picked the one with the lowest interest rate and no annual fee. I could have gone with Capital One, but I was worried about interest, not realizing that it didn’t matter as long as I paid my statement in full, which I always have.

I was upgraded to the Citi Diamond Preferred, with an increased credit limit and my deposit returned. A few months ago, I switched to the Double Cash card. The account is still open. Even though Citi has some great benefits at times, I kind of wish I started with a different bank.

A local credit union Visa with 1% back on everything and a $1200 limit. I still have that card, but I haven’t used it in quite a while.

Wells Fargo opened a card without my consent, which awkwardly made my credit score a lot higher than my friends’ when I was in my late teens and early 20s.

Congrats! Just remember to pay your statements in full each month and you’ll be just fine

I started with the DiscoverIT Student card. If I knew I could get approved for other cards, I would have chosen a different lender like Capital One. But back then, I was 18 and had zero credit. Any line of credit is better than nothing.

Wells Fargo student cash back card. After a couple of years, they upgraded me to the active cash back non-student card and it’s pretty good. You get 2% back if you just want cash back.

BCE from Amex.

Chase Freedom Unlimited, still open. I mainly use it for dining and drugstores now.

Still a great card though. I use it for larger purchases since my credit limit is significant.

Bank of America rewards card offered to employees when I worked for a subsidiary. It had a 4.25% APR, which I used to carry a huge balance for almost a decade.

Capital One Quicksilver. It’s funny because I got declined for their secured card, but a few months later, I was approved for Quicksilver.

Capital One Platinum which got upgraded to QuickSilver and then to Savor One.

An old Sears card for car repairs…

Capital One Journey (Student Card), which got discontinued and automatically converted to Quick Silver.

1st Financial Bank USA.

It was a great card for a somewhat reckless 18-year-old about to start college.

I still have my Capital One secured card.

Is it Platinum or QuickSilver?
