What is the best credit card for someone new to credit cards?

Hey guys, I’m starting to think about getting my first credit card to build some credit, but I’m not sure where to start. I’ll mainly use it for everyday stuff like groceries and gas, nothing too fancy. Any recommendations on the best beginner credit card for someone in college? Also, any tips for starting out on the right foot with credit?

The student credit card from Discover is a fantastic place to start. For it, fliers are sent by mail every time. I believe they even give you credit for receiving good marks, and they will upgrade you to the standard Discover it card once you graduate. Since I had no credit history and kept getting turned down for credit cards, I initially began off with a Wells Fargo student card. However, this was only because I already had a relationship with the bank, which made things easier for me.

A secured credit card is the greatest choice if you have no credit card expertise and are extremely worried about accruing excessive debt.

You must pay a security deposit equal to your credit limit in order to use these credit cards. For instance, when you open an account, you must pay a $1,000 security deposit if you wish to have a $1,000 credit limit.

The business that issued your credit card (often a bank) will use that security deposit to cancel your debt if you are unable to pay off your balance for whatever reason.

The best credit card for someone new to credit cards typically includes features like no annual fees, straightforward rewards, and easy approval for those with limited or no credit history. Consider cards like the Capital One Platinum Credit Card
