Just a heads-up: For those suggesting the Chase Freedom Flex or Freedom Unlimited, keep in mind that Chase generally prefers applicants to have at least a year of personal credit history or an existing banking relationship. Without either, there’s a high likelihood of denial. The only Chase card suitable for someone with no credit history is the Freedom Rise.

OP, please update your post with the template and include your monthly spending details so others can give you better recommendations. Generally, the Capital One SavorOne for students is a solid choice for most college students.

I’m working on filling out the template. I’m having trouble copying and pasting for some reason, but I’ll update it soon.

For a first credit card, the Chase Freedom Rise offers good rewards. It also has 0% liability, which is a wonderful protection, which is considered as the best credit card for the beginners.

Given your financial situation and goals, a student credit card is a great starting point.

Recommended Credit Card: The Capital One Secured Mastercard is a suitable option.

  • Secured Credit Card: Requires a security deposit, which serves as your credit limit.
  • Credit Building: Responsible usage can help you build a positive credit history.
  • No Annual Fee: Avoids extra costs.

Building Your Credit:

  • Timely Payments: Always pay your bill on or before the due date.
  • Low Utilization: Keep your balance low relative to your credit limit.
  • Credit Mix: Consider a store credit card in the future to diversify your credit profile.
  • Monitor Your Credit: Regularly review your credit report for any errors or unauthorized activity.
