My wife and I recently got our US Bank Altitude Reserve (USBAR) cards, but we’ve been having a frustrating problem. Since we received them a couple of weeks ago, almost every transaction we’ve tried to make has been declined and flagged as fraud.
We’ve called US Bank multiple times, and each time they assure us that they’ve removed the fraud block. Despite this, the next transaction we attempt is still declined.
Interestingly, one of the perks of the card is earning additional points for using mobile wallets. However, the US Bank agent mentioned that these transactions are flagged as fraudulent because the card isn’t physically present for the transaction. We’ve also had issues with transactions using the physical card itself.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? What steps should we take to resolve this?
I’ve had the same issue. I tried buying something small from Best Buy’s website with Apple Pay, but it was declined. US Bank sent me a text asking if the transaction was mine, so I replied yes. They sent another text saying the card was unblocked, but it still didn’t work, and the transaction was declined again. I called customer service, and they said the card was unblocked. I tried using the physical card in the store, but it was declined. When I called back, they told me it was blocked due to fraudulent transactions at Best Buy.
A week later, while camping in the mountains, my card was declined when I tried to buy gas. I couldn’t call them right away because I had no cell service. When I finally reached them, they said the card was blocked due to fraudulent gas purchases using the RFID chip. But that was me using the card. Two weeks later, while using both the physical card and Apple Pay, I was declined when trying to buy dinner online from Popeyes. The fraud specialist said it was because the online merchant’s address was too far from my mailing address, which triggered a block. Then she hung up while I was still asking questions.
Yes, I had to call them to add my card to my mobile wallet. They needed to verify that it wasn’t fraudulent before it was accepted. I didn’t experience any declined charges, though.
I don’t get this. I had this before but not US Bank. I don’t get with OTP codes and other 2FA stuff these days should be less false positives of fraud than this rate.
I made a small purchase and then tried to make a ~$200 purchase at Target, but it kept getting declined. After calling US Bank three or four times, they finally told me to try using the physical card instead of the mobile wallet.
It was a real hassle, and I was frustrated about losing the 3x multiplier. But after using the card normally for a few weeks, I’ve been able to make larger mobile wallet purchases, like a $500+ transaction at an auto shop, without any issues.
I had trouble with my GO card because I started using it with Apple Pay before I received the physical card. This caused a transaction to be declined and triggered a fraud alert because it seemed like half my credit line had disappeared. It turns out this was a system issue that wasn’t clearly communicated to me.
