So USB has a pre-approval tool for the new Smartly Visa. I got a weird 7-10 day message after trying it out https://imgur.com/a/1tsDZMr.
Furthermore, I called in to see if I could product change one of my Cash+ cards (I have two), and they said it was not an option.
Stats: 800+ all three credit bureaus, last hard pull in July for a car loan I ended up passing on and paid cash. Last new account is a USB credit card in May of this year. I have a total of 5 USB cards and one representative said she thought the limit was 3 and another said there was no limit .
The no product change is a real bummer; they may still allow it in the future, though. Sometimes they don’t at the start (many banks). I won’t bother without a product change as I dip below 5/24 (to 4/24) this month.
It’s pretty common for USB to manually review applications. I got the same thing. Give it a couple of days and see if you hear back from them, and if not, call them. Many people get the ‘7-10 business day’ result and still get approved, at least for their other cards.

How should I phrase it, you think, without annoying them? Just be like, hey, I want to check on the status of my application? And call every day or two?

There is a phone number on their website specifically to get their credit card underwriters. Just call it; the automated system will ask for your info to lookup your application and either give you an answer or transfer you to an agent. If you get an agent, just tell them you want to check on the status of your application and go from there.

Also, make sure to ask the representative for the application to be sent for manual review. If they say they can’t, then call again until you get someone who will.

Yup. When I applied for the USBAR, I got the 7-10 day message. When I called, it said I was denied, so I went through to a rep, and he gave the reasons why I was denied. I asked for a manual review, and he just kept saying why I was denied, so I called back the next day and was straight up and asked for a manual review. The rep didn’t even question it and sent it off for manual review, and I was approved 6 hrs later. The phone call was maybe 20 seconds.

My pre-approval was denied too, but I have 2 other cards with them and both needed a manual review to get approved.
Are they more lenient with manual reviews? I’m wondering if I should let it play out first to see what the decision is and then try the manual route as a backup. They might see all my recent cards lol.
It sounds like I should press them on the matter, though, instead and request the manual review upfront.
@Graydon
Not sure about leniency, but all I do is call recon. They ask me the same questions that are in the application—basically identity verification—and tell me to wait 7-10 days. Both times, approval came within 2-3 days. The con is I get a $500 credit limit .

For me, it says I am pre-approved. But I just got USBAR like a week ago, so I’m a little hesitant to apply.
I just got approved for USBAR and tried the Smartly to see if pre-approved, and it just gave me the 7-10 day message. I didn’t want to apply; I just wanted to check haha. Hope it doesn’t actually process, but we’ll see .
