I just got an email from Uber inviting me to take a survey about credit card reward programs. They showed me various percentages for different reward categories like Uber Eats, Uber Rides, cashback on Transit, cashback on Entertainment, and all other purchases. There were also sections for Uber One Membership (length), Experiences, and Savings.
If Uber’s cooking up their own card, I’m thinking the Uber benefits on the Capital One cards might not get renewed after they expire in November.
With all the rumors swirling about new Capital One cards, I can’t help but wonder if this might be a new co-branded card. What caught my attention was the inclusion of Entertainment as a potential category, which is something the Savor/SavorOne cards offer. Anyone have any thoughts or insights on this?
HAH, you ain’t gonna catch me slipping again. Barclays shot me a letter a couple weeks back saying to use the card or they’d cancel it, and I was like, “Whatever, let it happen.” But man, I do miss that pre-nerf Uber Visa…
Uber’s probably super annoyed 'cause they’ve taken a ton of losses with the Barclays and Savor(One) cards, lol. Both were just way too good. They’re like, “Forget it, we’ll just handle this ourselves.” If they drop their own card, I expect it to be decent, but it ain’t gonna match what we had with Barclays and Capital One. I’m guessing all the rewards will be UberCash, which is an automatic no for me.
Barclays had that sweet setup: 4% on dining and UberEats, 3% on hotels and flights, 2% on all online purchases, and 1% everywhere else. Plus, no annual fee or foreign transaction fees, a $50 credit for streaming subscriptions, and that $600 cell phone protection was lit. Too good to be true. Then in 2019, they nerfed it hard, taking away the 2% on online purchases, dropping the 4% dining down to 3%, bumping Uber/UberEats to 5%, and turning all cashback into UberCash. They even axed the $50 streaming credit. Like, did they really think that original card would be profitable?
Then you got Capital One Savor(One): 10% on Uber/UberEats, plus the free UberOne membership, along with 5% on hotels and rentals, 3% on dining, groceries, entertainment, and streaming, all backed by the protections and insurances of World Elite Mastercard, and still no annual fee or foreign transaction fees. Straight-up broken…
@StingyATM …Yeah, honestly, if the card throws in a free UberOne membership and offers at least 5% on Uber/UberEats, 3% on dining, hotels, and gas with no annual fee or foreign transaction fees, I’d totally consider it. I mean, that’s a free UberOne membership, and the rewards could just go right back into UberEats. It’d be a legit Uber card.
I’m glad you brought up the Uber Cash, I wasn’t even thinking about that. Some of the suggested percentages were as high as 6%. I saw 3-4% on "everything else and instantly thought “there is no way in hell they are giving us that much cash back” lol.
Oh, for sure, it’s gonna be all UberCash, like a million percent. No way they’re gonna let you cash out those rewards for anything else, and if they do, it’ll probably be like 0.6 cents per point for cash statement credits, lol. Classic move
