I’m a 20-year-old, pretty new to credit. I got my first credit card from Discover with a $500 limit in February of last year. Since then, I’ve added 4 more credit cards:
Cap One Walmart: $4,000
Apple: $2,500
Discover: $1,500
Chase Rise: $1,500
PayPal: $1,200
So my total credit limit was about $11,000.
Today, I decided to try my luck (with some fear) and applied for the Amex Blue Cash. I thought I’d get a low limit, but I was shocked – I got approved for $15,000! That’s more than all my other cards combined!
I’m really happy about it, but I’m curious – is this kind of approval common for someone with my credit history? What do you guys think?
Congrats on getting a huge $15k limit with your BCE! You more than doubled your total credit limit, which is really impressive. Is it common to get a $15k approval when your other cards have lower limits? Not really, but sometimes your profile just matches what a lender is looking for, and you end up with a big win. Enjoy your new card…
Haha damn, I have 16 cards and 20 year credit history with scores in the 800’s and my last two approvals were for $15k each. My TCL when I was your age was about $1200. Good job…
AMEX is pretty generous with credit limits. I got my first card from them in 2014 when I was just rebuilding my credit and improving my profile. I was approved for the Everyday card with a $5k limit, which quickly jumped to $10k, and now it’s over $30k. I haven’t asked for an increase in years, though, because I hope I never need to use that much credit!
I really wanted the Cap One Walmart card because I shop there a lot, but I heard they’re getting rid of it . I was really looking forward to that 5% cash back.
