Robinhood is now charging 10000 points ($100) for a limited edition rose gold card

Just received an email from Robinhood saying there is “a new limited-edition style” credit card available, and to reserve yours now. However, when you go to reserve it, you are required to use 10000 points ($100). Never heard of a credit card company charging $100 for a limited edition card, but here we are. I found it funny that they are promoting a new card design while simultaneously charging $100 for it.

Just another Robinhood gimmick.

How are they going to offer that and not even finish off their wait list?

I really think they have no plans to fully release the card since it’s a loss leader, especially if they are not seeing some returns or utilizations in other places.

I am still on the wait list, so … Robinhood gonna Robinhood.

Can you share the email? Curious to see the pitch, and what it looks like.

Thanks!

Seeing that I’m actually more concerned by the “Mystery Box” option shown there. Didn’t think loot boxes had a place in the credit card ecosystem, but here we are.

@Rylan
If only the mystery boxes worked. Anytime you try to open one, the app completely crashes.

This feels like “holders of our NFT will get these airdrops” energy.

Can anyone view the mystery box? I’m updated on iOS and app crashes when I tap that link from the email.

Mine does the same thing. I can purchase the new card design though.

@Cameron_Reese
Out of curiosity, does it say 10K points in the app? For me, it says 7.5K. I wonder if different prices for the same rewards are even allowed.

I still wouldn’t buy it unless it was the solid gold lol. I wonder how many people fell for this and the mystery box.

EDIT: I have not tested the mystery box itself, but I am able to view it.

@Blayne
10k points for me via the app with free shipping of $15 for expedited shipping.

Still can’t view the mystery box even after deleting and reinstalling the app.

@Blayne

Yeah to redeem the card in app it’s 10k points for me. Kinda scummy if the redemption value is different for certain people.

Seems to be that way.
I know I took a risk going for the RH card but the lack of consistency and customer support is wild.

I would encourage more people to share their DP for this.

Nonetheless, let us enjoy the 3% until it eventually gets nerfed within the 18 month frames.

@Blayne
I wonder if it’s based on something like spending habits or how many points you currently have.

Still waiting to see a normal gold in the wild.

I’ll just stick with my 2x Fidelity Card and have no worries.

Redeeming Points for Special Items

You may use your Points to make purchases of certain “special items” that are not part of the redemption categories set forth above, such as metal card upgrades, Robinhood swag, and airport lounge passes. The special items available for redemption may vary and are subject to change at any time, without notice. The value of points redeemed for these special items is less than $.01 per point; see the Robinhood Credit Card App for details. If this option is available to you, it will be visible in the App. Visit the Rewards tab in the Robinhood Credit Card App for additional details.

Redeeming Points through the “Mystery Box”

You may use your Points to try to win a prize through the “Mystery Box” feature in the Rewards tab in the Robinhood Credit Card App.

Rewards and probabilities are as follows:

Reward Odds
10,000 points 0.50%
7,500 points 0.75%
5,000 points 1.50%
2,500 points 2.00%
1,500 points 4.00%
1,250 points 5.00%
10% cashback on next grocery purchase 7.00%
10% cashback on next gas purchase 7.00%
5% cashback for 24 hours 8.00%
10% cashback on next Uber or Lyft 15.00%
15% cashback on next Starbucks purchase 10.00%
4% cashback for 24 hours 10.00%
5% cashback on next Amazon.com purchase 10.00%
5% cashback on next restaurant purchase 12.00%
5% cashback on next DoorDash or Uber Eats 11.00%
The 24-hour 5% cashback award is activated immediately and capped at $2,500 of spend. The 24-hour 4% cashback award is activated immediately and capped at $1,000 of spend. Should you be awarded one of these options, once you reach this spend threshold, future purchases will earn rewards of 3% cashback, as described in the “How Do You Earn Points” section above, even if they are made within the 24-hour period. As with 3% cashback, the cash back you earn on your purchases is first calculated in Points. Once Points are posted to your account, you can redeem them in various ways, including as cash back.

If you win the same offer multiple times, the offers must be redeemed consecutively and may not be combined. For example, if you open the Mystery Box two times in a row and receive the 5% cashback for 24 hours offer both times, you will receive 48 hours of 5% cashback, not 10% cashback for 24 hours. Note that each individual offer would be subject to the spend limitation set forth above (i.e., once reached, the spend limitation does not “reset” until the conclusion of the first 24-hour period).

There may be a limit on how many times you can open the Mystery Box per day; see Rewards tab for details. If this option is available to you, it will be visible in the App. Visit the Rewards tab in the Robinhood Credit Card App for additional details.

@Zaden
So basically you are redeeming points for “mystery boxes” for a chance to earn more points. Seems like a wild concept to me to be able to gamble credit card points.
