I was short on cash and got hit with a $100 interest charge on my Amex credit card.
I asked if they could remove it as a courtesy, and to my surprise, THEY DID!!!
I’ll never leave Amex.

This can happen with other banks too as a courtesy. It’s not just Amex.

You said no other credit card company would do this, I just wanted to clarify.

If you’re not sure why assume things, right?
My mom accidentally double paid one card and missed a payment on another. I helped her call Synchrony Bank to explain. Since it was her first time, they waived the fee and interest and cleared the negative note. They may not be the best issuer, but most companies will help if you’re polite and use the system correctly.
@Oakes
I had a similar issue when I bought my sofa. I always paid the total each month, but I missed one due date, leading to fees. I called and they removed them.
That’s awesome! It’s nice hearing success stories like this. It shows how often people don’t ask for help when they should.
Thanks for sharing.
I’ve asked all my cards to waive fees and interest, and most have done so multiple times over the years - Discover, Visa, and MasterCard. I’m about to do it again after mixing up a rarely used card and getting a past due balance. I’m sure they’ll waive it if I call.
@Pip
I may not know your financial situation, but I feel really stressed for you.

When you manage multiple businesses and over 20 credit cards along with several checking accounts, mistakes happen occasionally. It’s not due to a lack of funds haha.
Bank of America reversed my interest and late fee after I missed a payment by 3 days (I paid in full).
I called to ask. Their autopay can be unreliable.

I set up autopay but I still make sure to pay as soon as the statement comes out. I use autopay as a fail-safe.

Their autopay applied to the statement balance… after I already paid it. I have to go in manually and mark it as paid to avoid that.
The first time I did a balance transfer with Amex, I got charged a 3% fee that I didn’t expect. I asked for a one-time courtesy waiver, and they waived the balance transfer fee!
Is this an ad? Lol, other banks do this too.
I once got a $1/month intro subscription and charged it to my Discover to keep it active. They waived it under their small balance rule.
Exactly, $100. How fun.
