I see. SUBs are short-term, so I don’t account for them long-term since you can PC and keep the SUB. It’s just that Venture seems weak at $95 since there is not even a theoretical way to use the credits to pay for itself, so I was surprised at the mention.

I rarely recommend Venture (CSP is a better mid-tier travel card, let alone the several good no AF travel cards you often point out)…

The boring ‘I don’t want to think about things’ option is Wells Fargo Active Cash for Visa or Citi Double Cash for Mastercard, or one of the other 2% flat cash back cards from smaller issuers if you object to those banks.
Even if you end up min/maxing later, it’s good to have one for the default of anything that doesn’t fit into a special category. And they have no annual fee, so you can keep it forever to build up that long credit history.
