I’m considering getting a Wells Fargo Autograph or Autograph Journey credit card, but I’ve heard a lot of negative feedback from people I know regarding their experiences with Wells Fargo. The main concerns are about frequent fraud cases that lead to frustrating interactions with customer service. If I open a checking account, it would only be for a sign-up bonus and to transfer funds to pay off my credit card completely every month. My thought is that if fraud occurs, it would likely be on the credit card, and I could resolve it through customer service. Am I wrong in thinking this? Is it worth opening an account with them considering these concerns?
I’m also used to banking with Chase for my personal finances, where I have credit cards and have never faced any issues.
I would say their service is average, similar to other banks. I’ve been with Wells Fargo for about 10 years and have encountered a few minor issues, but nothing major.
I’ve had two cases of fraud with Wells Fargo in the past decade, one for my debit card and another for my credit card. The process was straightforward, each call took less than five minutes. They asked a few questions, and I explained the situation. The cases were resolved in my favor without any waiting around.
I have three cards with Wells Fargo and experienced no issues. My girlfriend has two cards, a checking account, and a mortgage with them, and she has been a customer for over 15 years without problems.
Wells Fargo was my first bank because I live close to a branch. I’ve never had problems with them, though I find their card offerings mediocre compared to Chase.

Mediocre, but interesting they have an Apple Card.

The Apple Card was my second credit card. I prefer USBAR for better benefits, but I might keep the Apple Card for future 0% financing options.
I’ve been considering the Apple Card but hesitated due to some issues in Goldman Sachs’ relationship with them.
I have both a credit card and checking account with Wells Fargo. The credit card experience is smooth; I haven’t had fraud issues, so I can’t comment on that. Checking account transactions have been frustrating at times due to low transfer limits. Customer service is decent on the phone, but in-branch experiences vary. I’ve found a good branch to visit for better service.
I’ve never had issues with WF. The only long interaction was about getting custom artwork on my card verified. In over 7 years as a customer, I faced fraudulent charges twice. They handled it quickly, confirmed it wasn’t me, locked the card, and sent a new one.
I still hold a WF checking account and credit card because it links to my parents’ accounts. Recently, I messed up a transfer and initiated an ACH of $70,000 that wasn’t available in my account at WF. Capital One’s response was horrible, but WF agents were great; they helped me stop the transfer and ensured no fees would be charged to my parents’ account. They provided valuable guidance during the emergency.
They’re on the better side of US banks. Their service is US-based, not outsourced. The dispute process is clear-cut, and any fraud issues I’ve encountered were handled well.
I only have a Bilt card, and my only customer service interaction was for a credit limit increase, which was resolved in about 5 minutes over the phone.
