Everything I’ve read says they’re predators.
I have three Synchrony credit cards and have no issue with them. I also don’t carry interest-bearing debt and always pay either the full statement balance or with their charge card for 0% financing, the required amount to pay it off.
I have the Verizon Visa (pay my Verizon bill with 2% back and occasional gas back at 4% back - honestly a good no-fee card), an Amazon Prime store card (5% back on every Amazon purchase) and a Synchrony Mohawk card I used to finance some flooring (knowing full well this is a charge card and if I don’t pay it off in full in 36 months as agreed, they nail me with retroactive interest).
I suspect 85% of the negative online comments about Synchrony are imbeciles who financed 0% purchases and messed it up, got nailed with the retroactive interest, and honestly shouldn’t be using credit because they don’t understand it or are living beyond their means.
I actually find their online interface super user-friendly and clean. And they will give substantial credit line increases upon request without hard pulls.
So I actually have a very favorable view of them. I’d recommend the cards I have to anyone who understands you either pay the statement balance in full, or if you finance 0% APR for 36 months on a charge card, you pay that shit off in full before the period ends because if you don’t, you are screwed.
Edit: I’ve never had to deal with their customer service so I’m not speaking to that. Still, I feel like if you have to deal with CS with a credit card company, it’s because you messed up.
I have $250k+ in available credit card limits. I never dispute things (because I don’t transact with bad merchants), never have errors, etc. Maybe I’m lucky, that’s totally possible. All I know is I’ve never had any issue whatsoever with Synchrony, and I have a Mohawk card (0% flooring financing), Verizon card (phone bill and sometimes gas at 4% back), and Amazon Prime (5% back on all purchases).
I’m just knocking on wood because maybe I’ve been lucky so far. But I don’t think so. I don’t have problems with my banks.
I have 3 with them, Lowes being one of those. Before I started using autopay I missed my Lowes payment (only credit card payment I ever missed) and they waived the late fee and interest. I’ve never had issues with them.
