Is it worth getting the Best Buy card?

Hi guys,

I’m considering getting the Best Buy card to pay over time for a large university purchase, but I’m unsure if it’s worth it.

It depends. If you value 4% back on Best Buy purchases more than travel rewards, it might be worth it. But other cards, like the US Bank Altitude Reserve, offer better rewards. Remember, the Best Buy card gives either 0% financing or 4% back, not both. If you choose to get it, opt for the Visa version, not the store card.

Hello, I recommend it… I simply renewed my card, made a $1600 purchase, and received $160 cash back.

In my own financial journey, I’ve faced decisions about using store credit cards like the Best Buy card for major purchases. These cards often offer promotional financing options, which can be attractive for spreading out payments. However, it’s essential to weigh the pros and cons. Benefits include convenience, potential rewards, and deferred interest periods if paid in full within a specific timeframe. On the flip side, high interest rates after promotional periods and potential impact on credit score due to new credit inquiries are considerations. Before committing, I research the terms thoroughly, calculate total costs including interest, and ensure payments fit comfortably within my budget. Alternatives like personal loans or other credit cards with lower interest rates may also be worth exploring depending on the purchase and financial goals.
