Is it me, or is Comenity the WORST card company to deal with?

I tried to add my card to Google Wallet. Instead of a text message like everyone else in 2025, they had me call a number. I called, and the agent said she sent me a code. After receiving it and providing it to her, she claimed her computer was having technical difficulties and asked if she could send it to another number on the account. I agreed, received that code too, but again she said her computer was malfunctioning and needed a third number. I told her we don’t have extra phones lying around, and she deemed it a security risk, locking my account and said I would have to wait for a letter by mail, yes, mail—not email. Complete and utter incompetence.

I’ve never dealt with them before, but that does sound ridiculous. Sorry to hear about your experience.

This brings back miserable memories from trying to add my Bread Amex. Nearly the same experience—nonstop errors. I never added it to any apps, used it for the SUB, and canceled a year later. It served no purpose.

I have 3 cards from Comenity and had no issues adding any of them to Google Wallet.

The point isn’t that I had trouble adding to Google Wallet. The issue is they locked my account because the rep had technical issues.

Credit One is worse.

Very strange! I was able to add my Comenity card to Apple Wallet with a text. It provided options to call, receive a text, or email. It might depend on the specific card, though.

I also had to re-approve all cards in Google Wallet, and most were easy (text or app). Comenity was a pain, as was Barclays.

Comenity isn’t the only one that might require a call to add cards to mobile wallets. USB/Elan does too. Comenity, however, managed to break their own system so badly during an ‘update’ a few years ago that no one could log in for months. That’s why I haven’t used my Comenity card since.

I had this exact same issue with Citi.

This entire write-up was hilarious :joy:

It’s not just you. They have a bad reputation for a reason. I had a terrible experience setting up an auto-payment.

Yeah, I had a hard time signing up for one of their cards recently. A few other big names have given me issues too.

Comenity just recently released an app for their cards, which shows how backward they are tech-wise.

I’ve had Comenity cards for 10 years since buying my house. Never had issues, but I’ve also never tried to add one to a digital wallet.
