How would things change for you if Capital One switched their cards to Discover

Since Capital One bought Discover mainly for their processing service, I’m guessing they may look to gradually move their existing cards over to the Discover network.

For me, I might think about canceling my Savor card since one reason I got it was to have a no foreign transaction fee card while traveling abroad. Discover still has a long way to go to be a good option internationally.

I really doubt they’ll switch over until the Discover network is accepted worldwide. It doesn’t make sense for them to do that now if people can’t use them.

I see them waiting on dedicated travel cards, but for cards like Savor or Quicksilver that are not travel-focused, I think they might push that change sooner.

Savor feels like a high-end card, so I doubt they’ll rush any changes there. Quicksilver could be a candidate but it would be strange if they made that change before working to improve international acceptance.

My Quicksilver VISA wouldn’t be usable at Costco if it turned into a Quicksilver Discover.

Let’s hope the bosses recognize this

Same goes for me. I’m thinking of ditching Costco for Sam’s since shopping there has become a hassle.

Scan & Go at Sam’s is a lifesaver

I love Sam’s sushi bar and their twice-baked potato salad

Costco’s same day delivery service needs a better website, but their service and prices are good. If you often leave with items you didn’t plan to buy, it pays for itself quickly, even considering convenience.

@Mars
Are you referring to same day delivery via Instacart? Their prices do seem to be marked up about 5%.

One reason I prefer Sam’s is the curbside pickup with no extra charge if you have their executive membership. They still offer early shopping hours for plus members and free delivery with a Plus membership. With the Plus membership, your cash back is available instantly instead of waiting yearly, and with a Sam’s card, you can get cash back monthly.

@faithmay
The tipping aspect of Sam’s delivery is a downside for me, especially since Costco items can be larger and heavier, making me feel like I need to tip better. I wish they offered an in-home delivery option like Walmart.

The Quicksilver is already a Mastercard for new applicants. They might switch it to Discover while keeping existing customers in place.

Nothing would change for me as long as my Venture X benefits stay the same. I use other cards primarily and my Capital One card is just backup.

I’d probably use it as my backup since I can’t rely on it for international travel. If Capital One raised the rewards rate, I might consider putting some of my regular expenses on it like insurance.

Usually, Capital One doesn’t change payment processors for an account once it’s set up.

Time will tell if they stick with that.

That’s right! I’ve seen Quicksilver Visas and Venture Mastercards in daily use.

@Briley
My Quicksilver Visa upgraded to Venture X. It started out as a secured Platinum card.

One of my Quicksilvers began as a 5/3 Bank Gold Optimum Mastercard managed by HSBC. Then HSBC sold it to Capital One and my card became a Platinum. I later upgraded to Quicksilver.

What a journey!
