Gas and Grocery Credit Card Comparative

I’m looking for a credit card specifically for gas and groceries. I’m considering the Amex Blue Cash Everyday, AAA Daily Advantage, or AAA Travel Advantage. I already have cards that cover restaurants and pharmacies, so I want to avoid overlapping categories. Which of these cards would be the best option based on their quality and the issuing bank? I believe the Daily Advantage can be used at Walmart, but can the Travel Advantage also be used there? Are there any better options than these two for both gas and grocery categories? I just need one card that covers both.

Get the Chase Freedom Flex with the 10% points on groceries for the year. My wife and I have each used the AAA cards without any issues for over a year.

Comenity Bank (the AAA cards) is a nightmare. The cards look great on paper, but I won’t do business with them again.

DP: I’ve used the app, and everything has worked fine for the last 3 months. I always redeem as statement credit and manually pay my bills once a month. I requested a due date change in the app, and it worked seamlessly too.

The app often needs an update every few days and sometimes doesn’t show my rewards balance for hours. No issues for me so far.

@Zander
My experience with the AAA Daily Advantage was good, although I use it less often now because it doesn’t sync well with budgeting apps. I also use Bread Savings as my main high-yield savings account.

Search for Comenity in this forum. Almost everyone echoes this sentiment.

I can only speak for the AMEX Blue Cash, but I’m loving my 6% cash back on groceries and streaming services.

That’s Blue Cash Preferred, not Everyday.

Still nets 3% on gas, which isn’t truly 3% unless you spend a lot on that/streaming/transit, given the annual fee.

You can get 4.4% if you hit the spend limit, accounting for the annual fee. Lower if you don’t.

@patrickseed
Only if you don’t use any credits or offers. Can we stop reducing cash back as if no one will? It’s a useless number.

If you want a major bank with a good website and app, go with the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday. It also gives you 3% on online shopping, which is nice. Just remember that AMEX cashback is in reward dollars and can only be redeemed for statement credit.

I haven’t had any issues with the AAA Travel Advantage Visa. So far, I’ve only used it for gas, so it’s just a clean 5% cashback. No problems redeeming for statement credit either. The website is decent. This is my only Comenity/Bread card, so I haven’t tried their app.

I don’t see any disadvantages with reward dollars from AMEX; money is money.

I have no issues with AMEX reward dollars. Some people prefer cashback that can be transferred to a bank account.

@jordansmith1
Yeah, I don’t understand those people. Cash is fungible, so just don’t pay the whole statement balance; subtract the cashback statement credit and leave the money in your HYSA/SPAXX/whatever.
