Does United Explorer Make Sense with Amex Plat?

Hello …I’m wondering if it makes sense to get the United Explorer card since I already have an Amex Platinum. Besides the sign-up bonus, what do you all think?

I usually fly United and British Airways the most, but from what I’ve seen, it seems like United cards offer better perks than the BA card at first glance. Any thoughts or insights would be super helpful.

I grabbed the united quest card. A bit more but had better perks I use. I also fly out of SFO/United hub where those economy seats can be worth it with free check ins.

The United Explorer card gives you priority boarding, so you can bring a carry-on bag with your Basic Economy tickets, plus you get a free checked bag. That’s a solid perk if you travel often…

I have both because I live in a United hub.

I get where you’re coming from with the Amex Plat. For me, the United Quest card ended up being a way better fit. The lounge passes felt kinda pointless since I prefer the Centurion Lounge over the United Club anyway. If you’re flying enough to be booking award flights regularly, the Quest card is way more worthwhile than the Explorer and has better perks all around.

It’s interesting you found the United Quest card better since you already have the Amex Plat. The Centurion Lounge definitely feels more upscale than a United Club, so I get that. If you’re regularly booking award flights, I can see how all the extra perks would add up. It’s worth considering what aligns more with your travel habits. Plus, if you’re in a hub, those benefits can really make a difference.

I’m all about that Group 2 boarding perk! I usually don’t check a bag, so getting on earlier helps me snag overhead space for my carry-on. It’s been super handy, especially when I travel with someone who wants to check a bag.

I primarily got it just for the group 2 boarding. I fly enough that I deem it worth it. Seems nowadays a days group 3 has to gate check while group 2 doesn’t.
