Apologies for the newbie question, but I currently have an Amazon Prime Visa through Chase. I enjoy shopping at Amazon and Whole Foods with this card because of the 5% back.
However, I want to open a Sapphire Preferred card and use that for all other purchases. Since they are both Chase cards, do the points pool to the same place? Or does each card have its own?
No, Amazon cash back does not pool with UR earning cards. It can only be used as cash or cash-equivalent (e.g., statement credit or ‘pay with points’ on Amazon, etc.).
Ultimate Rewards cards include the original Freedom, Unlimited, Flex, Rise, Sapphire Reserve, and Sapphire Preferred. The business cards Ink Unlimited, Ink Cash, and Ink Preferred also pool with personal cards. The Ink Premier doesn’t pool. The Amazon Prime Visa only earns cash back and cannot pool.
Only Chase non-cobranded cards can pool together, so if there’s another business tied to the card, they can’t pool. Also, the Chase Ink Premier doesn’t pool into UR points for some reason.
HOWEVER, there’s a rumor that if you ask nicely, you can transfer your points from Amazon to UR points ONCE. So if you have a lot of Amazon points, it might be worth trying, but you’ll need a card that earns UR points first.
The Prime card doesn’t earn UR points, so it can’t pool with other cards. Only Chase UR earning cards can transfer to another UR earning card. That’s how the trifecta works—you transfer points earned from your Freedom cards to your Preferred/Reserve for an instant boost in the travel portal.
