What is a realistic hypothetical card you’d wish a major lender would come out with?
Or what’s the general theme of one and we can discuss the annual fees or drawbacks a card would have to have to get to market?

I think it would be interesting to see a card that provides better benefits
A: the longer you hold it
And
B: the fewer competitors’ cards you have.
Just to throw a wrench in how people like to mess with cards around here lol.
@Hunter
I like this idea. It’s actually really similar to what BoA is currently doing and what US Bank is working on with the Smartly card.

Yeah, same idea but tied to loyalty rather than asset size.

If there is any overhaul to fees by the US Government, expect banks to adopt the BoA model for CB.
@Hunter
I think A could be good, but B is setting a bad precedent.

It’s also anti-competitive, and I could see that being the target for an anti-trust lawsuit.

Agreed. I think that would be awful for the consumer and it sounds illegal.
@Hunter
B) is just denied applications and Chase’s 5/24.
@Hunter
This might just further encourage biz cards lol.
But joking aside, this is a really interesting idea.
@Hunter
I feel like this is what Amex should’ve been but now they’re a coupon book
A hybrid rotating category card. The card earns a base 2% and then the rotating category gives you an additional 1-3%.
I am not even a fan of rotating categories, but this is a way to make it better.

Best idea here.

Even if Chase just combined the unlimited and flex. I’d take 1.5% flat if I had smaller rotating categories on top.

This sounds reasonable and like something that could actually be implemented.

Love this. I hate rotating cards, but if it’s all upside on a reasonable catch-all? I’m super in.
I want a card that is exactly what I already get by holding multiple Amex cards, except without needing to juggle or think about the multitude of different cards.

I’m surprised there’s not an app where you can put in every card you have, and when you tap to pay, it chooses the card with the best reward for that purchase.
@Zorion
There was, it was called Curve, but it only worked for MasterCard.
@Zorion
We are very close to this possibility if you’re on the Apple side of things, as they’ve opened up NFC on device now (with an approved entitlement). In the meantime, this is as close as I could do with CardPointers, which shows your best card right in Apple Wallet:
