Credit Card New Account Bonuses

I’m sure this is probably one of the most posted questions, but I’m going to post it anyways… I’m remodeling my kitchen and about to buy my flooring, around $2,000. So I figure I’d open a new credit card to take advantage of those new account bonuses.

Currently, I use an Apple Card for 95% of my purchases because of its ease and convenience. Most credit card experts rank the Apple Card mid-tier due to its limited benefits, but I personally like getting cash back instead of points.

I’ve been researching various new account offers, and it seems like now would be a good time to get a different card for such a big purchase. I’m considering the Capital One Venture or VentureX, which offers 75,000 points ($750) for spending $4,000 in the first three months, a target I can definitely meet. However, I haven’t traveled in years, so I’m skeptical about the $395 annual fee versus $95, especially since it comes with $300 in travel credits.

I’m looking for advice on whether this is the best option right now. Is the Capital One app as user-friendly as the Apple Card? Are there better companies or opening account bonuses I might not know about? I use my credit card for almost everything, including bills, and I travel to Mexico weekly so I want to avoid international fees. I also have a great credit score.

Generally, people who rarely travel aren’t the best matches for annual fee travel cards. Fill out the template, and we can provide better recommendations.

That’s true, unless you’re into churning cards. Some travel cards are also quite beneficial for non-travelers, like the CSR, which offers flexible credit usable outside of travel portals.

I don’t have the Apple Card, but the Capital One app is extremely user-friendly. You should consider what you want to redeem your rewards for. If it’s travel, check if AeroMexico (or your preferred airlines/hotels) are transfer partners. The VentureX offers unlimited Priority Pass lounge access, so check if those lounges are in the airports you frequent. Plus, it has no foreign transaction fees, which is great.

One downside is that Capital One’s redemption rate is generally 0.5 cents per mile versus the standard 1 cent per mile like most banks offer for cash-back, which can be a significant drawback.
