I applied for the Chase Freedom Flex yesterday through the in-branch offer for $200 off $500 and 5% back on groceries and gas. I got denied, and the banker called for reconsideration, but the rep quickly denied it again. I was at 4/24 on personal accounts, but I realized I was added as an AU on my dad’s new card, which might have been the reason.
I called Chase today and explained the situation. They transferred me to recon, and the rep looked at my application for about 10 minutes before sending me to verification. The verification rep spent another 10-15 minutes reviewing my info, asked me to confirm my phone number and address, and then told me I’d either get the card or a decision letter in two weeks. The automated status changed from 7-10 days to two weeks.
Anyone have thoughts on how this might go? I’m 18, have a 775 TransUnion score, already have the Freedom Rise, and have a long checking relationship with Chase. TIA…
Hey… I work for Chase, and I’m really hoping it works out for you, but based on what I’ve seen (I handle 5-10 recons a week), it’s probably a no.
Chase is one of the most conservative banks, which helps us handle things like bank bailouts (like with FRB), but it can be frustrating.
My advice is to wait for a preapproval. Chase just brought back the preapproval tool, so you can always check online before applying. We use Experian for everything. BTW how long have you had the Freedom Rise?
It sounds like you’ve done everything right by explaining the AU situation and going through verification. With a 775 score and a good relationship with Chase, you’ve got a solid chance! The two-week notice is usually a good sign since they’re taking time to review it. Fingers crossed…
Chase can be tough sometimes, especially when it comes to being added as an AU, which can mess with your 5/24 status. But the fact that they sent you to verification and didn’t just flat-out deny you again is a good sign. Hope it works out…ALL DA BEST
I had a similar experience with Chase before, and after the two-week message, I was eventually approved. I think your long checking relationship with them could play in your favor. Just hang tight—it could go either way, but you’ve got a decent shot
