I believe Visa is the most common. In my minimal wallet, I’d like to carry just my Bank of America Cash Rewards (BCP) Visa card, a Visa ATM card, and a Visa credit card. I’d consider carrying my Discover and MasterCard in a secondary wallet that I’d bring only when I feel the need. Thanks!
The only place I encountered that only accepted MasterCard was at a rave in Europe sponsored by MasterCard. I thought that was silly because they were missing out on alcohol sales.

Exactly, those exclusive agreements with payment processors are rare. It’s better not to carry the MasterCard or Discover unless necessary. Thanks!
@kain
No problem! I prefer to keep things minimalist too. I carry a Voyager (VX), Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR), and a Schwab debit card. Just in case, I also have a SavorOne for stores that don’t accept mobile payments.
@Rayne
Minimalist with your heavy credit cards, I like it!

Now that you mention it, it does sound a bit contradictory. I guess I am a bit conceited about my metal cards.
Woodman’s Market in Wisconsin only accepts Discover for credit cards; however, they’ll take debit cards from all networks.

That’s unexpected, interesting to note. Thanks!

Woodman’s is a great grocery store, but they only accept Discover.
Canadian Costco only accepts MasterCard. I’m sure there are others as well.

Wow, that’s the opposite of Costco in the US!

Costco used to only accept Amex in the US before switching to Visa.
@Rohan
I remember that! They can always make changes based on deals, like Visa giving them a better rate due to their volume. I’ve seen people paying with cash rather than using cards, which baffles me!
@Rohan
I was surprised to learn that AmEx wasn’t just a Costco card; I thought many only had them because of Costco. Now they’re more widely accepted. I wonder how losing the Costco deal affected them.

When I was in Japan in 2019, Costco there only accepted MasterCard.

Unless you have the Citi Costco Visa card from the US, then they will take it.
Sam’s Club used to accept only Discover about 10-15 years ago; now, they take all cards.
I go to a French restaurant called La Sirène which only accepts Amex due to the owner’s discrimination experience with other networks. He has written about it on the menu.
Absolutely, I’ve encountered places that only accept either MasterCard or Discover. Right now, Amex seems to be the only one to leave out.

Some upscale restaurants in the Northeast US only accept Amex. Just look at the ‘Boston Fee Party.’
