Do you think he’s right? Apparently Gen Z loves coupons.
The coupons definitely target a specific demographic, but honestly the Amex Gold refresh has better value for me than prior to the refresh. Before I could only use the Uber + dining credit (-$10 effective annual fee), and now with the Resy credit, my effective annual fee is +$15 prior even after discounting the Dunkin credit to $0.
@Zaden
Agreed. Resy credit has been easy to use and justifies the increase by itself. Dunkin’ is fine - works out for road trip coffee by loading onto the app.

Maybe I’m reading too much into your comment here… What do you mean by “loading onto the app”? I am reading it as, you load money into your Dunkin account every month and that counts for the credit? As someone with no Dunkins close to me, this would be useful.
@Xen
That’s right! Each time my Amex rolls over to the next month and I do a reload on the Dunkin’ app, I’ll get the credit from Amex. I live in Eastern MA where we have a Dunks on every corner, so I do actually use it each month, but even if I didn’t, I would load it up every month with the $7 just in case I came across a Dunks while traveling.
@FALEH
Thanks!
@Xen
I have plenty near me but do this as well because I rarely go to Dunkin. but I can definitely utilize the $ at some point.
@Zaden
Can someone explain the Resy credit? You just use resy to make reservations right and you put money down to hold the reservation? So does that money go towards the restaurant bill at all? TYIA!

None of that is necessary. Just go to a restaurant that’s on the Resy platform and eat there. Pay with gold card, get $50 credit. It’s pretty seamless. You don’t have to actually use Resy at all for reservations or anything else.
@Pacey
Ooh this is good to know! I thought you had to use the Resy platform!

yeah i reserved a place that’s on opentable and got the resy credit and it turns out it’s also on resy, I just didn’t bother to look it up because google only showed me opentable.
I mean the gold went up 75 bucks and gave us 84$ in dunkies (which is better than most credits since you don’t have to use it or lose it) and $100 to restaurants. It really wasn’t as bad or as drastic as people make it seem. But again it just may not fit people’s lifestyle.
@Farley
I may be able to use the Resy credit if I try but living here near Seattle and the closest Dunkin’ being over 1000 miles away, the gold card may not be for me anymore.

That Dunkin’ shit will kill you in the long run so not a great perk.

True, good point, very geographically specific but also with the dining credit… wtf is Goldbelly or whatever? I can’t use that lol.

I’m in Seattle and have zero interest in ever going to a Dunkin’s, even if I was on a road trip, but the Resy credit is great in my mind since it’s only a twice a year credit rather than monthly.
I love these articles because they tend to enrage the armchair businessmen on Reddit who are angry when a company doesn’t cater to them as they find themselves no longer being part of the target demographic but want to desperately make the product fit their lifestyle.
@Laine
You mean all the people who somehow cannot fathom that rich people also buy shitty coffee sometimes on the way to work, just like the rest of us?

Owner of my company is a full-on billionaire and LOVES Dunkin. Insists we have someone bring it to the office ready for him when he visits.
@Laine
Agreed. It’s like people don’t even realize profit and shareholder returns are what motivates financial services companies.
