Let the speculation begin!

It’s quite interesting. It seems like the card gets 3x miles for every purchase outside the U.S. I can’t think of another card like that.

Better not have a 3% FTF :joy:.

That would be crazy. I would actually laugh if it happened.

@Oaklee
99% of annual fee travel cards don’t. It’s counter intuitive. Southwest plus is the only one that I can think of.

Agree, especially for those living abroad and still using their US cards.

My guess is the card will have a $5,000 spend cap for that category. I.e. stop loss the perk at around 10,000 miles (around $100).

That’s an insane perk. The card is probably going to be lackluster in other departments though. Even at a $5000 cap that would be 15k miles in addition to other categories. Seems like an anti Amex with their US only multipliers which is extremely annoying for those who like abroad.

3X on purchases made in a foreign currency is wild.

Not really the Savor gives you 4x abroad too.

4x on all purchases abroad, or is the Savor 4x just on specific categories? When reading the footnote for the new Alaska card, it seems to be 3x on all purchases made abroad which is wild.

@Josie
You’re right - I think of Savor as a global dining card, not unlike AmEx Personal Gold and Delta Personal Gold.

I’m more interested in the global companion cert… they just announced recently they’re flying to NRT and ICN from Seattle starting next year using Hawaiian wide bodies.

Also the travel disruption thing sounds intriguing… and currency flexibility? Perhaps a multi-currency card?

Good to see there is still room to innovate in the CC space.

@Donna
My guess is the ‘currency flexibility’ option will be a pay yourself back option like JetBlue and Air Canada. Or maybe ‘use miles at 1¢ ea. towards any ticket’ like Delta offers.

1¢ redemptions would be a downgrade for almost every Alaska award but I take your point.

Wild guesses:

  1. Card will be metal (shocking I know).
  2. Slightly better EQM earn to further the race to the bottom of airline status.
  3. Spend cap on foreign purchases of $5,000.
  4. $350 annual fee to match the Delta Platinum.

What I’d really like to see is a third, no annual fee, version of their card.

@Adrian
Some day I hope to see a brave company give us a slab of marble as a card so we can truly return to our caveman heritage.

@Adrian
DoC mentions a $395 AF.
