Use Amex BCP at Walmart Neighborhood Market to buy Walmart Gift Card. Codes as 6% grocery…use gift card in Walmart app or just swipe at store.
This works fine for things like groceries and maybe other cheap items, but keep in mind that those gift cards don’t have things like purchase protection, return protection or extended warranty that come with credit cards. If you are buying anything remotely expensive from Walmart (like electronics), you should probably use the card directly for that.
@Quade
Agree, but I don’t typically buy electronics at Walmart or anything expensive mostly just groceries and household goods, etc.…

That’s not a hack that is a grocery store.
@Quade
That’s a fair point, but I have to point out that except for some certain cases, using those benefits can be a pain and it’s better to just eat the loss to get the long-term savings. A lot of times when dealing with a third party they are really stingy about it or find any reason to deny the claim. It’s way more hassle than I want to deal with.
I’ve saved so much money over gift card churning I could probably eat a broken TV or something stolen. I don’t want it to happen, but I’m aware it can, and willing to take that chance.
this is helpful, thanks. i spend a lot of money at wally world for groceries and exclusively use the app. i could be persuaded to drop a couple thousand on gift cards every quarter to get the 6% on it.
I use the PayPal debit card - codes Super Centers and website as groceries for 5% and stacks with their merchant offer for an additional 5%. I’ve been getting 10% cash back at Walmart for the past 3 months.
@Tarian
Last I saw on mine earlier today the merchant offer was down to 0.5%.

Can u eli5 how the pp debit card works. Is it like a bank’s debit card? Where is the money stored?

It’s a debit card for your PayPal account. So you store money in your PayPal account and the debit card takes money from there.
A few things:
- Most people do not recommend keeping large amounts of money in PayPal.
- You can fund your PayPal account instantly with your regular bank’s debit card, so you can just load your PayPal account before you go shopping if you want.
- I personally keep my grocery budget in PayPal’s HYSA (which is FDIC insured since it’s through Synchrony) and just transfer money over to my PayPal account before I go grocery shopping.
With the AAA Daily Advantage or the PayPal Debit Card you can get 5% natively at Walmart. Not worth doing this for 6% back when that 6% is really about 4.2% after the annual fee anyway assuming you’re maxing out the card’s $6K limit on the 6%. If you’re frequently buying gift cards on a credit card the issuer is going to have a problem with that. If you do it every now and then it is justifiable but constantly doing it looks like manufactured spending.
@Samuel3
Amex Offers said that I must spend $50 via Apple Pay for $5 statement credit.
I bought a $50 gift card along with a $1.79 celery.
They don’t receive line item information so this charge may as well be $51.79 of organic seafood.
My BCP codes as 6% at the neighborhood markets anyway. No need to purchase the gift card first

Yea the point is to use the GC at a super center…or in the app for delivery/pickup…
@Vinnie
My understanding is that buying gift cards is generally frowned upon and could result in your account being closed. I personally wouldn’t purchase gift cards just to get the additional 5%.

You’d have to be buying hundreds of thousands not $100 here and there.

They don’t like it for SUBs. Also keep in mind the BCP has a $6000 yearly spend cap before dropping to 1% anyways.

Like I stated before my understanding is they don’t like MANUFACTURED SPENDING for sign up bonuses but they could care less afterwards…they WANT you to use the card…
@Vinnie
Can you post a screenshot of a purchase you made of a gift card as well as the 6% cash back earned amount?
It looks like you could just use the PayPal debit card alone and get 5% back: https://old.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/comments/1h1cbx3/paypal_debit_card_grocery_category/
